چکیده
Mastic oil (MO) is extracted from the resin of bark Pistacia lentiscus var. chia, a tree abundantly grown in Greek island Chios. Various biological activities, such as antimicrobial, anticancer and antioxidant, have been associated with dietary intake MO. However, little known about MO’s potential anti-inflammatory effects, while some its main chemical constituents were reported to exert significant activity. This study aims assay bioactivity MO on vitro vivo experimental inflammation models, particular LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages, murine primary peritoneal macrophages model zymosan-induced peritonitis BALB/c mice. The per os administration inhibited recruitment into cavity zymosan-treated mice, but did not affect neutrophil mobilisation or levels IL-6 TNF-α fluid. Similarly, secretion was affected by MO, phosphoproteins that activate differentially regulated. Finally, individual reduced nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 supernatants cells their phagocytosis rate. Our data imply may promote an transition due combined bioactivities constituents. Thus, mixture various compounds, seems multiple molecular mechanisms are involved development inflammation. Therefore, more research, focusing employing pre-clinical models different mechanisms, required for detailed investigation oil’s

Mastic oil from Pistacia lentiscus var. chia inhibits growth and survival of human K562 leukemia cells and attenuates angiogenesis.
Mastic oil from Pistacia lentiscus var. chia, a natural plant extract traditionally used as a food additive, has been extensively studied for its antimicrobial activity attributed to the combination of its bioactive components. One of them, perillyl alcohol (POH), displays tumor chemopreventive, chemotherapeutic, and antiangiogenic properties. We investigated whether mastic oil would also suppr...
متن کاملIn Vivo Evaluation of the Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Pistacia lentiscus Fruit Oil and Its Effects on Oxidative Stress
In order to find new topical anti-inflammatory agents, we had recourse to a medicinal plant. This work was designed to determine the topical anti-inflammatory effect of Pistacia lentiscus fruit oil (PLFO), using carrageenan-induced paw edema rat model, and to evaluate its effects on oxidative stress. The topical anti-inflammatory activity of PLFO was compared to Inflocine® and estimated by meas...
متن کاملEffects of ozone on the foliar histology of the mastic plant (Pistacia lentiscus L.).
An open-top chamber study was conducted to investigate the tissue and cellular-level foliar effects of ozone (O3) on a Mediterranean evergreen species, the mastic plant (Pistacia lentiscus L.). Plants were exposed at three different O3 levels, and leaf samples were collected periodically from the beginning of the exposure. Although no visible foliar injury was evident, alterations of the plasti...
متن کاملFractionation of Mastic Gum in Relation to Antimicrobial Activity
Mastic gum is a viscous light-green liquid obtained from the bark of Pistacia lentiscus var. chia. which belongs to the Anacardiaceae family. The gum has been fractionated to investigate the antimicrobial activity of the whole gum and its fractions against various strains of Helicobacter pylori. The polymeric gum fraction was separated from the essential oil and the resin (trunk exudates withou...
متن کاملSalinity Differentially Affects Growth and Ecophysiology of Two Mastic Tree (Pistacia lentiscus L.) Accessions
Pistacia lentiscus (Anacardiaceae; mastic tree) is an evergreen sclerophyll species, largely distributed in dry areas of the Mediterranean basin and well-adapted to severe conditions of drought in very unfertile soils. In the present study, we evaluated the growing responses of two accessions of P. lentiscus to three different levels of salinity under nursery conditions. The two mastic tree acc...
